The Chesterton boys track season came to an end on Saturday, but not without some hardware.

The Trojan quartet of Kevin Kenney, Marlon Williams, Billy Biehl and Tyler Vore won a state championship in the 4x800 relay at the IHSAA State Finals on the campus of Indiana University.

What a great run,” Chesterton coach TR Harlan said. “They talked about it from day one of the season and today realized that dream. There’s a very finite number of people that can call themselves a state champion.

I’m really happy and proud of them. They put in the work and deserve the reward.”

The Trojan group ran a season best time of 7:44.87 to beat runner-up Indianpolis Brebeuf (7:48.16) by nearly four seconds.

Kevin and Marlon did exactly what they were supposed to do through the first two legs,” Harlan said. “Billy ran an incredible third leg to get us the big lead and Tyler had to hold onto it while running by himself. That’s so tough, because you don’t know if anybody is charging at you.”

Junior Luke Cota threw a personal best 55-3.75 in the shot put to finish 10th overall and just missed a medal, while Biehl was 19th in the 800.

In the pole vault, senior Brett Lara was 14th and junior Dominic Raffin was 16th. Both vaulters cleared 14-feet.
