The Chesterton gymnastics team put a solid stamp on the end of the dual meet season Wednesday night.

The Trojans set a school record team score by posting a 114.575 to beat Portage (108.10).

“This is the way we want to finish our regular season and head into the post-season,” Chesterton coach Dawn Matthys said.

Chesterton swept the top four spots in all four events and the top six in Vault and Floor. On Floor, the Trojans had eight performers score above 9.0.

“We really worked on the floor details this week,” Matthys said. “It paid off.”

Mia Pak took top honors on the Bars by tying the school record of 9.725 set by teammates Jordan Bush and Sophie Hunzelman. Pak also won the Vault (9.675).

“Mia’s Bar routine was amazing,” Matthys said. “Flawless.”

Hunzelman won the Beam with a 9.55.

“We have improved on mental strength on the Beam,” Matthys said. “I have no idea where they took deductions in Sophie’s Beam routine.”

Bush won the Floor with a 9.75.

“Jordan Bush owns the floor,” Matthys said. “Everyone stops and watches her perform.”

Pak won the All-Around competition (38.40), followed by Bush (38.225) and Hunzelman (37.90).

The Trojans return to competition on Saturday when they travel to Crown Point for the DAC Meet. Competition begins at 11 a.m.
