Chesterton Girls win opener at Highland

The Chesterton girls basketball team opened its season with a 37-23 victory at Highland on Friday night.

The Trojans built a 12-4 lead after one quarter and pushed it to 23-9 at halftime.

Offensively, Courtney Krol led CHS with 21 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the floor, including three 3-pointers. Sarah Dzierba added six points on a pair of triples.

Rounding out the scoring were Marney Sisson and Maddie Scott with four points each, while Hailey Vale added two points.

Sisson led the way on the backboards with six rebounds with Craycraft, Scott and Krol adding four rebounds each.

Craycraft dished out a team-high three assists and added a team-best six steals in the victory.

Chesterton returns to the court on Friday when they travel to Munster. The junior varsity game begins at 5:30 p.m.

Junior Varsity

Chesterton 37, Highland 25

The Chesterton junior varsity basketball team started its season with a 37-25 victory over Highland.

Emma Schmidt and Tori Gerhardt led the Trojans with nine points, while Sydney Balas added five points.

Rounding out the scoring were Sydni Vale (4 points), Kaitlyn Carr (4 points), Jaelynne Corral (3 points) and Hollie Skoczek (3 points).
