Chesterton Girls Soccer beats Lake Central 1-0

The Chesterton girls soccer team got a goal from Ashlee Bakaitis and made it stand up as they picked up a 1-0 Duneland Athletic Conference victory over Lake Central on Tuesday night.

“It wasn’t our best performance, but we did enough things right that we came out with the victory,” Chesterton coach Ben Forgey said. “Usually we can count on our attack to get goals. Tonight we only got one. We just didn’t make the final connection.”

LC put tremendous pressure on the Trojans in the final 15 minutes of the game, but the defense and goalkeeper Carley Balas made every play.

“Carley had a lot to do in the final 15 minutes,” Forgey said. “Lake Central had several free kicks and corner kicks that were dangerous. To our credit, our defenders won everything and when they didn’t, Carley did.”

The Trojans return to the field on Thursday when they travel to Kankakee Valley. The JV game is set for a 5 p.m. start.
