Chesterton Girls Hoops opens with win

The Chesterton girls basketball team opened is season with a 47-36 non-conference victory over Highland on Friday night.

The Trojans were led offensively by Chelsea Jackson with 19 points and Courtney Krol with 10 points.

Rounding out the scoring for Chesterton were Shannon McCoy (8 points), Hailey Vale (6 points), Jenna Tarnowski (2 points) and Brittany Privett (2 points).

Krol dished out a team-high four assists with Jackson tallying a team-best five steals. Vale led the battle on the backboards with eight rebounds.

The Trojan defense held Highland to just 13-of-51 shooting (25 percent) from the field, while hitting 19-of-51 (37 percent) themselves.

Chesterton returns to the court on Friday night when they host Munster. The junior varsity contest is slated for a 5:30 p.m. tip.

Junior Varsity

Chesterton 49, Highland 22

The Chesterton junior varsity started the season with a 49-22 victory over Highland on Friday night.

Ashley Craycraft led the Trojans with 16 points, while Molly Slatcoff added 14 points and Marney Sisson tallied 10 points.

Rounding out the scoring were Haley Moore (4 points), Nikki Arndt (2 points), Annika Babcock (2 points) and Anna Gonzalez (1 point).
