Chesterton Girls Basketball wins season opener

Marney Sisson is the lone returning starter for the Chesterton girls basketball team.

Sisson delivered for the Trojans with a pair of free throws with :08 on the clock to give Chesterton a 32-31 season-opening victory over Highland on Friday night.

The 5-foot-10 senior was 8-of-8 from the foul line on the night and finished with a team-high 12 points, seven rebounds and four steals.

Contributing to the Chesterton offense was Molly Slatcoff (6 points), Emma Schmidt (5 points), Haley Moore (4 points), Nalani Malackowski (3 points) and Ashley Craycraft (2 points).

Craycraft dished out a team-best three assists and the Trojan defense held Highland to just 11-of-32 shooting (31 percent) from the field.

Chesterton returns to the court on Friday night when they host Munster. The JV tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.

Junior Varsity

Chesterton 43, Highland 19

The Chesterton junior varsity opened its season with a 43-19 victory over Highland on Friday night.

Hollie Skoczek and Lauren Davis led the Trojans with nine points each, while Sophia Raffin added seven points.

Other scorers included Jaelynne Corral, Emma Pape, Kaitlyn Carr and Tori Gerhardt with four points each. Mannat Singh rounded out the scoring with two points.
