The Chesterton Boys varsity volleyball team tied for first place at the
Chesterton Invitational on Saturday, but lost the overall title to
Noblesville on a tie-breaker rule.
Chesterton opened the day by defeating Lafayette Jeff 25-27, 25-14, 15-9 and
followed that with a 25-15, 25-15 victory over Hamilton Southeastern.
In the third match of the day, Chesterton stumbled against Noblesville and
fell 25-22, 28-26. In their final match, Chesterton got back to winning by
defeating Ft. Wayne Pineapple 25-15, 22-25, 15-10.
Chesterton was led by Andrew Balon, Emilier DeJesus, Nate Crownover, Joe
Bishop and Dominic Raffin offensively and defensively at the net.
Kai Cromwell and Adam Whitlow managed the offensive tempo with numerous
assists and aggressive serving.
The Chesterton Boys JV volleyball team advanced to the finals of the JV
division on Saturday, but lost to Noblesville in the championship to finish
at 2-2 on the day.
Earlier in the day, Chesterton defeated Hamilton Southeastern and Lafayette
Jeff before falling to Noblesville in pool play.
Evan Ruffner organized the offensive attack with numerous assists.
Passing and
attacking was led by Jack Roach and Tim Jirtle. Max Dille and Trevor Nelson
patrolled the net and Kyle VanEerken played solid defense.
