The Chesterton boys
soccer team kicked off Duneland Athletic Conference play with a solid 5-0
victory at Michigan City on Wednesday night.
“We got off with an
early goal from Robbie (Capehart),” Chesterton coach Jamie Sensibaugh said.
“We were a little stagnant on offense, but did a good job of keeping
possession of the ball. We’re still trying to work on building together as a
team and finishing in the final third of the field.”
Staked to a 2-0
lead at the half, Jack Eaton’s goal on a header off a restart got the ball
rolling in the second half.
Other goals for the
Trojans came from Jake Donovan, Caleb Haire and Bailey Arthur. Assists were
dished out by Capehart, Arthur and Nick Biel. Doug Filipek recorded one save
in the shutout victory.
“Michigan City is a
tough place for us to play traditionally,” Sensibaugh said. “It’s nice to
get that first conference win.”
The No. 5 Trojans
return to the field on Saturday when they host No. 3 Avon at CHS. The junior
varsity game is scheduled for 11 a.m.
“We’ll get to see
what we are made of on Saturday,” Sensibaugh said.
