Chesterton Boys Soccer beats Avon 3-1; girls lose two

Back To Front Page

The Chesterton boys soccer team took the long trip down I-65 and came home with a 3-1 victory over Avon on Saturday.

The Trojans got a first half goal from Seth Conway on a pass from Zach Bowser that hit the crossbar, but found the back of the net and carried that lead into halftime.

“We had a few opportunities early in the game,” Chesterton coach Lucas Sabedra said. “We have been working on our back post runs and we came up a couple inches too short. Zack played a great ball to Seth to get us the lead.”

Avon tied the game in the second half before Conway connected two more times to set the final score.

“It was a back-and-forth game,” Sabedra said. “Great win for our guys.”

Conway got a ball from Nick Biel and one-timed it past the keeper for a 2-1 lead and then beat a defender one-on-one to force a penalty kick that set the final score.

Chesterton returns to the field on Wednesday when they host Valparaiso. The JV game is set for a 5 p.m. kickoff.
