Chesterton Boys shut out Pirates

The Chesterton boys tennis team improved to 2-1 on the season with a 5-0 Duneland Athletic Conference victory over Merrillville on Tuesday.

In singles, Luke Liapes rolled past Noah Terpstra at No. 1 6-0, 6-0, while Fabio Haiduc beat Anthony Williamson 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2.

Troy Feller completed the singles sweep with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Benzi Corrales at No. 3.

In doubles, Nick Hanson and Corydon Gaff beat Micah Rayburn and Ronald Green 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1.

Drew Engels and James Navarro got the final team point with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Jamar Wililams and Mathew Sahagaun at No. 2.

Singles -- 1. Luke Liapes def. Noah Terpstra 6-0, 6-0; 2. Fabio Haiduc def. Anthony Williams 6-1, 6-0; 3. Troy Feller def. Benzi Corrales 6-1, 6-1.

Doubles -- 1. Nick Hanson/Corydon Gaff def. Micah Rayburn/Ronald Green 6-1, 6-0; 2. Drew Engels/James Navarro def. Jamar Williams/Mathew Sahagaun 6-0, 6-1.

Record: Chesterton 2-1 overall (2-1 DAC).

Junior Varsity

Chesterton 6, Merrillville 0

The Chesterton junior varsity lost just three games all night and cruised to a 6-0 victory over Merrillville.

Singles winners for the Trojans were Drake Redman (No. 1), John Powell (No. 2) and John Petro (No. 3).

In doubles, Danny Vear/David Archbald (No. 1), Ian Condes/Connor Potesta (No. 2) and Sawyer Metz/Joe Wadowski (No. 3) were all victorious.
