Chesterton Boys beat Merrillville 56-53

The Chesterton boys basketball team improved to 11-1 on the season as they opened Duneland Athletic Conference play with a 56-53 win at Merrillville on Saturday night.

The Trojans led 14-11 after one period and increased the lead to 28-21 at the halftime break. Leading 43-34 after three quarters, CHS survived a late Pirate run to secure the victory.

Jake Wadding led Chesterton with 24 points, with Travis Grayson (10 points) and Jake Warren (10 points) each hitting double figures in the win.

Rounding out the scoring were Alex Schmidt (7 points), Tyler Vanderwoude (3 points) and Chris Mullen (2 points).

The Trojans return to the court on Tuesday night when they play Hobart in a girl/boy varsity doubleheader that will begin at 5:30 p.m.
