Chesterton Boys beat Crown Point 55-53 in Noblesville

The No. 4 Chesterton boys basketball team split a pair of games on the opening day of the Noblesville Holiday Tournament on Thursday.

Jake Wadding scored two of his game-high 19 points with just under 30 seconds left to lift the Trojans to a 55-53 victory over Crown Point in the nightcap.

CP had a chance to tie the game, but missed on a pair of free throw attempts and their full-court inbounds pass with :02 on the clock was intercepted by Wadding.

“The Crown Point win was a good win with a quick turn around,” Chesterton coach Marc Urban said. “We made plays when we needed to.”

Kolton Cardenas tallied nine points on three 3-pointers in the victory, while Jack Eaton added six points.

Rounding out the scoring were Jack Eaton (6 points), Travis Grayson (4 points), Tyler Nelson (4 points), Nick Mullen (4 points), Drew Vanderwoude (4 points), Jake Warren (3 points) and Alex Schmidt (2 points).

In the opener, the Trojans fell 66-41 to No. 12 Lawrence Central.

Chesterton fell behind 22-12 after one period and never threatened as the lead grew to 38-22 at halftime.

Wadding led the Trojans with 14 points, while Grayson added eight points and Mullen tallied seven points.

Other scorers for Chesterton were Mullen (7 points), Vanderwoude (6 points), Nelson (4 points) and Schmidt (2 points).

CHS will finish tournament play today when they face off against Andrean at 3 p.m. Chesterton time.
