The Chesterton baseball team got the bats going early and carried that
momentum, despite six errors, to a 6-3 Duneland Athletic Conference victory
over Michigan City Tuesday night.
“We got several key hits and a couple of home runs,” Chesterton coach Jack
Campbell said. “We played pretty well despite the six errors. We didn’t
attack the ball in the infield and threw it around some.”
The Trojans scored a pair of runs in the first and second innings for a 4-0
lead and starting pitcher Steve Janes didn’t need much help from there.
“Steve pitched well for us again,” Campbell said. “He was around the plate.”
Zack Novak pushed the lead to 5-0 with a home run in the fifth inning and
Jeremy Ross finished the Trojans’ scoring with a solo homer in the fifth. Dan
Detmar led the offense with a 3-for-3 day that included a double and a
triple.
Glenn Peterson worked the seventh inning for his fifth save of the year.
“It’s not like we annointed him as the closer at the beginning of the year,”
Campbell said. “It’s just evolved into that.”
Chesterton is now 13-5 overall and 9-4 in the Duneland Athletic Conference as
they travel to LaPorte on Thursday for a 4:30 p.m. start.
