Chesterton Baseball scores early and often to beat Hobart

The Chesterton baseball team got the bats going early and cruised to an 8-2 non-conference victory on Friday at Hobart.

Owen Hallas got things off to a hot start with a leadoff home run for the Trojans. Following a fly out, Anthony Kurek and Austin Peterson added singles.

Brett Roeskeís singled to score Kurek for an early 2-0 lead.

In the second, Eric Ralph singled and Grant Brunt was hit by a pitch to start the inning. A two-out walk to Hallas loaded the bases.

Chris Borenís two-run single scored Ralph and courtesy runner Tommy Benson. Kurek reached on an error that plated Benson for a 5-1 lead.

The scoring continued in the third for the Trojans as Roeske singled ahead of walks to Ralph and Brunt to start the frame and load the bases. Hallasí RBI single plated courtesy runner Patrick Sosby to push the lead to 6-1.

The final tallies of the night for Chesterton came in the fourth. Kurek singled and scored on Austin Petersonís triple. Roeske hit a sacrifice fly to plate Peterson.

Brunt picked up the win for the Trojans on the mound after working five innings and striking out five. Drew Vesling pitched the final two innings and struck out one.

Chesterton returns to the field on Tuesday when they host Merrillville. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
