The Chesterton baseball team continued its winning ways with a 4-2 Duneland
Athletic Conference victory at Portage on Monday.
The Trojans fell behind 2-0 in the bottom of the first on an Eric Mesarch
two-run home run off of Chesterton starter Mitch Kobitz.
Kobitz, who struck out three, would allow just four hits and no runs the
rest of the way in garnering the victory. The Indians did not get a runner
past second base over the final six innings as Kobitz retired 18 of the last
23 batters he faced.
CHS tied the game in the fourth inning as Jordan Mornadini reached on a
dropped third strike to start the frame. Aery Pratt’s single to left and
Mike Crowley’s double scored Morandini. Pinch-runner Colin McEuen scored on
a ground out by Tyler Sufana.
The Trojans put the final touches on the victory in the sixth inning with a
pair of runs. Morandini singled to start things off and Pratt’s double to
center field scored him. Crowley’s double plated Pratt with the game’s final
Offensively, Pratt and Crowley both had a pair of hits to lead the Trojans.
Other hits came from Andrew Ralph, Morandini and Kobitz.
