Chesterton Baseball no hits Merrillville

The Chesterton baseball team used three pitchers, but didnít allow a hit, in getting a 4-0 Duneland Athletic Conference victory over Merrillville on Tuesday.

The Trojans opened the scoring in the second when Garrett Fairbanks reached on an error to start the inning. After moving to third, Fairbanks scored on Kolton Cardenasí sacrifice fly.

Another Merrillville error to start the third inning put Connor Krantz on base. Tyler Nelsonís RBI double made it 2-0 Chesterton.

In the fourth, Cardenas was hit by a pitch with two outs and moved to third on Zach Zimmermanís double. Cardenas would score on a passed ball.

The final tally of the night came in the seventh inning when Jeremy Krantz reached on an error. Nelsonís second double put runners on second and third before Krantz scored on Haydn Malackowskiís RBI ground out.

Fairbanks and Nelson each tallied two hits to lead the Trojans offense, while Jeremy Krantz, Zach McKenna, Ben Collins and Zimmerman also had singles in the win.

Ray Keane picked up the win in four innings of relief work (3 strikeouts). Collins got the start and worked two innings (4 strikeouts), while Chad Dzierba pitched the final frame (1 strikeout).

Chesterton returns to the field today when they host Merrillville. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
