Chesterton Baseball falls to Portage

The Portage Indians took advantage of two late errors and beat the Chesterton baseball team 6-2 on Thursday night.

Portage took an early lead with a run in the top of the first, but the Trojans answered quickly.

A two-out Tyler Sufana double in the bottom of the first led to an RBI single by Brandon Roeske to tie the score.

The Indians scored twice in the top of the second and the Trojans answered again. Jeremy Jaeger led off the second with a double and scored on an error.

The game remained that way until the sixth when Portage scored three unearned runs to set the final score.

Andrew Ralph led the Chesterton offense with three hits, while Sufana had two hits in the loss.

Matt Kubacki worked the first 5.2 innings on the mound, striking out seven. Cameron O’Brien finished the final 1.1 innings and struck out one.

Junior Varsity

Portage 4, Chesterton 3

Trailing 4-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh, the Chesterton junior varsity rallied for three runs but came up short in a 4-3 loss to Portage.

James Burger, Jack Mullen, Logan Hofferth and Blake Soffa all had singles for the Trojans.
