It was the pitcher’s duel that everyone expected for three innings, but the
Lake Central bats awoke and ran away with an 8-1 Duneland Athletic
Conference victory over Chesterton on Tuesday.
The Indians opened the scoring in the fourth inning when three singles
loaded the bases. One of three Chesterton errors on the night, turned into
two runs and an early Lake Central lead.
After getting the first two outs in the fifth, a walk, two singles and a
double resulted in three more LC runs. Three more in the sixth pushed the
lead to 8-0.
The Trojans tried to mount a seventh inning rally as Kevin Jones picked up a
two-out single. JR Frederick’s single into right field scored Jones all the
way from first, but it was too little, too late.
