Chesterton Baseball falls at Hobart

The Chesterton baseball team couldn’t hang on and dropped a 5-4 non-conference decision at Hobart on Friday.

The Brickies scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to pick up the win.

CHS scored first with a pair of runs in the first as Connor Krantz singled to start the game. After moving to second, Krantz promptly stole third with one out.

Zach McKenna’s ground ball was misplayed allowing Krantz to score. After stealing second, McKenna scored on Jake Roof’s RBI single to right field.

Krantz walked to lead off the third inning and moved to third on Jeremy Krantz’ single. A double steal scored Connor Krantz from third for a 3-0 Chesterton lead.

Hobart scored solo runs in the third and sixth to cut the lead to 3-2 before Chesterton added an insurance run in the top of the seventh.

Connor Krantz walked to start the frame and Jeremy Krantz was hit by a pitch. Tyler Nelson’ sacrifice bunt moved both runners up 90 feet.

McKenna’s sacrifice fly to center field plated Connor Krantz for a 4-2 lead.

Offensively, Garrett Fairbanks led the Trojans with two hits.

Ben Collins started the game on the mound and struck out five in three innings of work. Ray Keane worked 1 1/3 innings of relief and struck out one.

Tyler Nelson took the loss and struck out four.

Chesterton returns to the field on Tuesday when they host Michigan City beginning at 4:30 p.m.
