Back To Front Page

The Chesterton baseball team scored four runs in the fourth inning to pull away for an 8-5 Duneland Athletic Conference victory at Michigan City.

The Trojans scored two runs in the top of the first as Andrew Ralph and Corey Rusboldt started the game with back-to-back singles. Tyler Sufana’s double and Brandon Roeske’s sacrifice fly plated both runs.

The Wolves scored one in the bottom of the first before the Trojans plated a run in the third. Sufana singled and moved to second on a Roeske single. He advanced to third and eventually scored on a passed ball.

Michigan City scored four runs in the bottom of the third to take a 5-3 lead thanks in part to three Chesterton errors.

The Trojans immediately responded in the top of the fourth with four runs of their own. Jeremy Jaeger doubled and scored on Ralph’s RBI single. After Ralph stole second, he scored on a single by Rusboldt.

Sufana’s two-run home run to left field capped the rally.

Chesterton added an insurance run in the top of the seventh on Roeske’s two-out home run.

Offensively, Sufana led the way with three hits, while Roeske, Ralph and Rusboldt all added two hits.

Roeske worked the final 4.1 innings in relief of Cole Teal to get the win. Roeske struck out four, while Teal went 2.2 innings and allowed just one earned run.
