The Chesterton boys golf team (156) improved to 4-0 in Duneland Athletic
Conference play with a less than impressive victory over Portage (160) and
Merrillville (176) Tuesday night at Robbinhurst Golf Club.
“We dodged a bullet tonight and we will need to play better as a team in the
rest of our DAC matches,” Chesterton coach John Sparks said. “We need some
other guys to step up this week.”
Chesterton’s Kyle Grassel and Josh Kalita tied with Merrillville’s Frank
Martisovic for medalist honors with a 3-over-par 37. Ryan Grassel shot 40,
Alex Hernandez had a 42 and Steve Wuletich tallied a 43 to round out the
Trojans’ scores.
“Kyle and Josh continue to post solid scores,” Sparks said. “Alex Hernandez
did a nice job in his first 9-hole match of the year.”
