Bowser and Sabedra earn top state honors in soccer

The honors for CHS senior Zack Bowser and head coach Lucas Sabedra continue to pour in.

Bowser was named the Indiana Player of the Year, while Sabedra earned the Indiana Coach of the Year from the Indiana Soccer Coaches Association (ISCA) earlier this week.

Bowser tallied 40 goals and dished out 11 assists as he became the Trojans’ all-time leader in goals scored.

Sabedra led Chesterton to its second Class 3A State Championship in three years and a 21-2 record this season. Sabedra has a career-record of 53-2-4.

Bowser also earned a place on the First Team All-State along with senior goalkeeper Charlie Eaton. Eaton recorded 59 saves on the year and had seven shutouts.

Senior Nick Biel earned Third Team All-State honors.

On the girls side, Addy Joiner was named First Team All-State by the ISCA. Joiner scored 35 goals and dished out 10 assists and set the school’s all-time goals record.

Carley Balas earned Second Team All-State honors after recording nine shutouts. Sydney Stott was also named Honorable Mention All-State and dished out 10 assists to go along with three goals from her midfield position.
