Big inning leads CHS Softball over Michigan City

The Chesterton softball team made short work of the Michigan City Wolves on its way to a 16-0 Duneland Athletic Conference victory on Wednesday.

The Trojans scored the gameís first run when Cassidy Grimm singled with one out and moved to second on a wild pitch. Lexi Benkoís single to left scored Grimm.

Things got wild in the second inning as Chesterton sent 17 batters to the plate on their way to a 14-run inning that included a three-run home run from Benko.

The final tally came in the fourth when Benko plated Mae Mallon with a sharp single to left.

Offensively, Maddie Snemis and Benko (home run, 5 RBIís) each had three hits, while Grimm and Marney Sisson (double) each had two hits.

Gillian Price, Kaitlyn Carr, Jenna Vagner, Faith Matta and Mae Mallon all singled in the victory.

In the pitching circle, Carr got the win with three innings of work and four strikeouts. Lauren Kobialka pitched the final two innings and also struck out four.

The Trojans return to the field tonight when they travel to Portage to take on the Indians. First pictch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
