Fresh off a 15-run performance against Merrillville on Wednesday night, the
Chesterton baseball team had to find another way to win on Thursday at East
Chicago.
No problem.
The Trojans mustered just three hits, but took advantage of three Cardinal
errors to pick up a 4-1 non-conference victory.
“We put the ball in play,” Chesterton coach Jack Campbell said. “They made a
couple mistakes, but the mark of having a good season is finding other ways
to score runs.”
East Chicago scored a run in the opening inning against Chesterton starter
Glenn Peterson, but the junior settled in and dominated the game in picking
up the complete-game victory. Peterson allowed just three hits and struck out
six.
“Glenn really pitched well,” Campbell said. “He did an outstanding job and
went the whole way. He got ahead in the count and that certainly makes things
easier.”
The Trojans were led offensively by Zack Novak, Kevin Gates and Jack Wilson
all with one hit.
Chesterton (7-2, 3-1) returns to the field tonight when they travel to Crown
Point for a 4:30 p.m. first pitch.
