CHS Volleyball outlasts Lake Central in 5 games

The Chesterton volleyball team improved to 11-5 on the year and 5-3 in Duneland Athletic Conference play with a 25-22, 16-25, 18-25, 25-13, 15-10 victory at Lake Central on Tuesday.

Offensively, the Trojans were led by Katie Urycki and Shelby Ruffner with 16 kills each. Jessica Urycki added six kills with Ariane Mahaffey tallying five. Jennifer Williams and Emily Nix had three kills a piece.

Mahffey dished out a team-best 22 assists with Williams adding 19 assists.

On the service line, Ruffner had four service aces with Katie Urycki and Mahaffey each tallying two aces.

Defensively, Katie Urycki had 13 digs and Sara Tarnowski added seven. Jordyn Moleski had six digs with Williams adding five. Jessica Urycki, Ruffner and Mahaffey all had three digs in the win.

At the net, Ruffner had four block kills with Katie Urycki adding three. Willams and Nix both had two block kills.

Junior Varsity

Chesterton 14-22

The Chesterton junior varsity dropped a 25-14, 25-22 decision at Lake Central Tuesday night.

Offensively, Shelby Snyder led the Trojans with four kills, while Whitney Schreiber tallied three kills. Aubrey Nagdeman and Samantha Stueber each had two kills.

Snyder dished out a team-best six assists with Nagdeman adding five assists.

Defensively, Allie Sink led the Trojans with nine digs and Snyder added six. Emily Parkerson and Stueber each had four digs, while Lia Lombardini and Ashley Hecimovich added three digs each.


Lake Central 25-25, Chesterton 7-4

The Chesterton freshman dropped a 25-7, 25-4 decision at Lake Central on Tuesday night.

Taylor Rodriguez recorded the only kill for the Trojans and Olivia Sech had a team-best two service aces.

Defensively, Sech had 12 digs, while Elena Azcona had six digs. Alaina Kogler added five digs and Katelyn Woods recorded three digs.
