
Senior Athletes of the Year: Three CHS athletes were
named Senior Athletes of the Year at the Spring Awards Program on Wednesday

What a resume!
Wednesday night the Chesterton High School trio of Mark Babcock, Adam Hutnick
and Talor Whitaker were named the school’s male and female Athletes of the
Year at the Spring Awards Program.
On the girls side, Whitaker earned six individual and relay state
championships in swimming and has been named an All-American 12 times. While
earning six varsity letters, the Washington State-bound senior earned 14
individual and relay Sectional titles and 14 more individual and relay DAC
titles.
Whitaker currently holds five CHS school records, three Sectional records and
was named team MVP in 2005, 2006 and 2007. She was also named the Duneland
Athletic Conference MVP in 2007.
Not only a star in the pool, Whitaker also was an eight-time honoree as a
Scholar-Athlete.
On the boys side, Babcock and Hutnick shared the honor.
Babcock earned eight varsity letters in soccer, basketball and football. He
was the 2006 Mental Attitude Award winner in soccer and the 2005 and 2006
Sportsmanship Award winner in basketball.
A two-time Academic All-State selection in soccer, Babcock was an All-State
honorable mention choice and a DAC All-Conference choice in 2006.
A Wabash College-bound senior, Babcock is also a 12-time Scholar-Athlete
Award winner.
Hutnick earned seven varsity letters and was named MVP in football for the
2005 and 2006 season. A team captain in football and basketball for two
seasons, Hutnick was an all-conference selection in football as a junior and
senior.
In football, the Hillsdale College-bound senior earned the Best Defensive
Back, Outstanding Receiver and Outstanding Running Back awards in 2006.
In basketball, Hutnick was named Most Improved in 2005 and earned the team’s
Best Defensive Player Award in 2006 and 2007. He also led the team in assists
in 2006.
