The Chesterton boys golf team picked up its first two Duneland Athletic
Conference victories of the season on Thursday at Youche Golf Club in Crown
Point.
The Trojans fired a 152 team score to beat the host Bulldogs (159) and
Valparaiso (165).
“We played really well,” Chesterton coach John Sparks said. “This was our
first nine-hole match of the year and it’s different. You can’t make
mistakes. I thought our guys did a nice job of handling a course they aren’t
very familiar with.”
Kyle Grassel led the way for Chesterton with a two-over-par 37. Ryan Grassel
and Nick Stasil each shot 38, while Josh Kalita fired a 39.
“Kyle had been really steady in everything,” Sparks said. “Nick continues to
play exceptionally well. Everybody was really solid.”
The Trojans will split their varsity squad on Saturday when one group travels
to the Wawasee Invitational.
The other Chesterton contingency will travel to the Valparaiso Invitational
beginning a 9 a.m.
