Two Trophies-One Dog:

Rickie Olson’s dog “Toby,” was at home Wednesday, but Rickie was at the Porter County Fair with the two trophies he and “Toby” won. He took Grand Champion for Obedience, Level 1 A, and Reserve Grand Champion for Showmanship, Level Novice. “Toby” is an eight-month-old Brittany Spaniel. Rickie, a 4th grade student, is a member of Liberty Hot Shots 4-H Club.

Grand Champion:

Jenny Meadows took the top honors in Aquatic Science at the Porter County 4-H Fair. A member of Liberty Hot Shots Club, she has entered the Aquatic Science project for three years and has been in 4-H for nine years. She is a junior at CHS.

Reserve Grand Champion:

Clay Thomas, of Lakeshore Drifters 4-H Club, took the title in Computers, Division A at the Porter County 4-H Fair. This is his second year in 4-H and first year in computer competition. He attends Westchester Intermediate School.

Explorer Division in Flowers:

Alexander Hughes, who just completed Kindergarten, entered his pansies in the Explorer Division in flower competition. He received a ribbon for his efforts. The Explorer ribbons are awarded to the youngsters too young to be in the regular 4-H competition, as encouragement to join and continue in 4-H Fair Projects. Alexander is affiliated with Liberty Hot Shots.

Flower Champion:

Christopher Hughes, age 10, of Liberty Hot Shots 4-H Club, will be attending the Indiana State Fair with his championship winning flower arrangement. He said his Zinias, displayed in a salt shaker ,were deemed the appropriate fit for a flower display. This is the first year in this event for the 4th grade St. Patrick School student.

“Two Eyed Jack”

and his owner Ed Bruce of Liberty Hot Shots 4-H Club pose after winning an A ribbon for Showmanship Wednesday at the Porter County Fair. Thursday the three-year-old quarterhorse and Bruce will compete in the versatility division. Bruce has been in 4-H for eight years, seven in horse competition.

Dream come true:

Katie Hughes, who has previously competed in the Horseless Horse projects at the Porter County Fair, finally has a real horse for horse competition. The Chesterton resident leases “Glaze,” a gelding, from Steve and Ed Hiscox. She has been in Liberty Hot Shots 4-H Club for 5 years. This is her first year in the horse competition. The 14 year old earned a C ribbon in Showmanship and is slated to compete in Horsemanship competition.

Reserve Grand Champion:

Caryn Glasgow, of Lakeshore Drifters 4-H Club, does not own a horse but she loves horses. She won the trophy and Reserve Grand Champion title for her Horseless Horse Division 2 project. This is her second year in 4-H and second year in the Horseless Horse project. Her dream is to someday own a horse.

Reserve Grand Champion:

Aris Ringas, played “From the Lighthouse Window” in piano competition at the Porter County Fair and won reserve grand champion. The fifth grade student, a member of Lakeshore Drifters 4-H Club competed for her second year in the piano competition.

Winners in painting:

Gabrielle Chumbley (left), standing underneath her painting, took Reserve Champion for her first attempt in the project. Paige Winey (right) stands by her championship painting of blue flowers. Paige also took Reserve Champion for a pencil drawing. The artists are members of Lakeshore Drifters 4-H Club.

Russian Tumbler:

The name of the breed of pigeon Lori Uskert is entering in the pigeon project at the Porter County 4-H Fair. The 8th grade student at Chesterton Middle School has been in 4-H for two years and two years in this project. Last year her bird won Reserve Grand Champion. She has two birds this year, both of which will be in competition on Friday.

Reserve Champion:

Jessica Berg (right) won Reserve Champion for the skirt she sewed for 4-H competition. She is pictured with her twin sister, Diane, who is proud of her sister. Both girls, members of Jackson Volunteers, were on building watch Wednesday. They answered visitors’ questions about the exhibits in the 4-H building.

Bus Safety Champion Poster:

Jacob Hughes, 12, of Liberty Hot Shots 4-H Club, said he learned a lot about bus safety rules while working on this project. He rapidly rattled off the rules when asked what the rules are. The 7th grade CMS student won A Honor Champion.

Cat project champions:

Jonah Paige (left) won the Reserve Champion trophy for his cat, “Liza,” and his poster project. He is pictured with Sarah Copley, who won an A Honorable Mention for her cat, “Cuddles,” and her poster. Both are 6th grade students and members of Liberty Hot-Shots 4-H Club.

Reserve Champion:

Nathan Waltz won the honor in the game division for his Take-Along Tic Tac Toe game. Frogs and various sport balls are used on the orange-red and yellow cloth board. The third-grade student at Brummitt Elementary is in his first year of 4-H. He is in the Lakeshore Drifters 4-H Club.
