As required by the state of Indiana, Porter County Assessor Jon M. Snyder
submitted a reassessment report on April 11, 2011.
Data records from that office indicate the following: 42 percent of field
inspections are complete; Data for 22 percent of all parcels has been
entered.
Fifty percent of all parcels are to be inspected and entered by May 1
according to State guidelines.
The Assessor is confident that even though the May 1 deadline may not be
reached this year, that next year’s deadline of March 1, 2012 will be
reached.
“We have come a long way in a short period of time and it looks like we may
be able to reach 50 percent of field inspections by the May 1st deadline,”
Snyder said.
The Assessor has also released an appeals update. A current count shows
there are approximately 4,546 assessment appeals left to be heard. During
January an excess of 7,000 appeals in the system were found, with quite a
few errors and even some double entries.
In the last 90 days focus has been on eliminating and reducing those errors.
In addition the upcoming PTBOA meeting will feature in excess of 400 appeals
for the board to review. This is a significant improvement which has
contributed to the big reduction in outstanding appeals. The Assessors
office is required to file monthly reassessment updates to the State on the
tenth of each month.
