The Porter County Commissioners announced late this morning that a proposal to change the appointment authority for the Porter County Convention, Recreation and Visitors Commission will not be on the agenda for Tuesday’s meeting, as earlier expected.

An email announcing that the PCCRVC board appointment issue has been removed from the agenda came in at the Tribune’s deadline today.

The commissioners do have a number of other items on their agenda for Tueday’s meeting.

The agenda includes a funding discussion on a one-time grant, which will be made by Family and Youth Services Bureau Executive Director Dennis Morgan. Porter County Sheriff David Lain is also expected to speak to the commissioners about a chemical dependency and addictions program.

Also on the agenda, Porter County Highway Superintendent Al Hoagland will give the highway department’s recommendations of the 2010 Supply and Service bid proposals to the commissioners. The bids were opened and received during the Nov. 17 commissioners meeting.

Enhanced 911 Director Dave Sheibels will give the second reading of 2010 E-911 Budget for the commissioners’ approval. At the previous meeting, Sheibels also mentioned a $216,377 surcharge budget reserve that needed to be paid to cover salaries and medical coverage of recently hired dispatchers in the Portage consolidation. The commissioners said the expenses could be supplemented by the County Council which may include a marginal hike in the county tax for the 911 systems. The Council is expected to handle the issue at their meeting in January.

The Porter County Plan Commission will present a second reading of two new amendments to the Unified Development Ordinance. One amendment calls for homebuilders to submit planner surveys along with the finished grade evaluation to ensure structures are being constructed accordingly to submitted zone water plans. The other will include further inspections of water and sewage pipe construction near new developments and subdivisions.

DLZ Indiana will provide further details on their recommendations of new boilers to be installed at the Porter County Jail. DLZ Representative Mike Jabo will also update the commissioners on replacing the boiler and registers at the Old Jail Museum and Memorial Opera House.

The commissioners will meet at 6 p.m. at the Porter County Administration Center, 155 Indiana Ave., Valparaiso, Suite 205.
