Tourism bureau announces 2014 Porter County ROSE winners

Indiana Dunes Tourism, the official tourism bureau of Porter County, on Thursday honored two dozen businesses, organizations and individuals for their outstanding service.

The R.O.S.E. (Recognition of Service Excellence) Awards recognize those who provide excellent service or otherwise go the extra mile to make Porter County a great place for visitors and residents alike to enjoy.

“There are businesses and individuals whose service goes above and beyond, helping to make Indiana Dunes Country a destination which visitors return to again and again,” said Lorelei Weimer, executive director of Indiana Dunes Tourism. “We enjoy honoring those who contribute to our success in promoting Porter County.”

The R.O.S.E. Awards ceremony coincides each year with National Travel and Tourism Week.

This year’s Porter County R.O.S.E. Award winners are: Hotel of the Year - Hilton Garden Inn, Chesterton; Festival of the Year - Hooked on Art; Restaurant of the Year - Kelsey’s Steak House, Valparaiso; Retailer of the Year - Chelle’s; Newcomer of the Year - Hunter’s Brewing; Recreation Location of the Year -- Portage Lakefront and Riverwalk; Partner of the Year - Valpo Velvet; Putting Porter County on the Map - Thad Donovan; Turning Lemons into Lemonade - Brad Bumgardner; Attraction of the Year - 49er Drive-In Theatre; People’s Choice Restaurant of the Year -- Industrial Revolution; People’s Choice Retailer of the Year - BJ’s Coins & Jewelry; and People’s Choice Pub of the Year - Moods Pub.

Individual Awards went to Richard Riley, owner of Riley’s Railhouse Bed and Breakfast in Chesterton, for Professional of the Year and Lori Guilfoyle, for Hospitality Professional of the Year. Volunteer of the year went to Rafi Wilkinson.

Shining Star awards were given to Suzi Galvin, Ashley Goldsmith and Adam Erb.

Conservation Awards went to Taltree Arboretum, Indiana Dunes State Park, Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, Coffee Creek Watershed Preserve and Friends of Indiana Dunes.
