Third death reported in Porter County

The Porter County Health Department was reporting this morning a third death in the county from COVID-19: a Center Township resident.

To date, three Porter County residents have died. The previous two were both Portage Township residents.

The number of reported cases in the county now totals 135, up from 120 on Tuesday, an increase of nearly 13 percent.

Current hospitalizations number 10, the same as on Tuesday; while the Health Department is reporting a total of 52 recoveries, up from 48 on Tuesday.

Duneland cases by township:

-- Westchester: 12 cases, one hospitalization, five recoveries (unchanged from Tuesday).

-- Liberty: eight cases, two hospitalizations, four recoveries (unchanged).

-- Jackson: one case, no hospitalizations, no recoveries (unchanged)

-- Pine: one case, its first; no hospitalization and no recovery.

Portage Township--with 61 cases, four hospitalizations, and 20 recoveries (54, four, and 20 on Tuesday)--remains the hardest hit in the county; followed by Center, with 25 cases, two hospitalizations, and 10 recoveries (23, two, and eight); then Westchester; then Union, with seven cases, no hospitalizations, and six recoveries (seven, none, and five).

The demographic with the most cases remains the 50-59 age group, with nearly 40; then 40-49 and 30-39, with more than 20; then 60-69, 70-79, and 20-29, with nearly 20.

Female patients outnumber male 72-63.
