Reynolds beats Lush for Democrat Sheriff nod

You probably saw him, at the Porter County Fair, at events in the Chesterton Downtown, handing out his card with a smile.

Harold Lush put a lot of time into his candidacy for the Democrat nomination for Porter County Sheriff but in the end he was unable to get around the experience and name recognition of his opponent, former sheriff Dave Reynolds.

In Tuesday’s primary, Reynolds took 87.27 percent of the votes, 4,044 to Lush’s 593.

Reynolds will face a tougher opponent in the fall, Valparaiso Police Chief Mike Brickner, who ran unopposed for the Republican nomination.

“We got into this race in October and knew that the major campaign was going to be in the fall,” Reynolds told the Chesterton Tribune this morning. “I don’t want to minimize yesterday but we’ve been working hard toward the fall. We’ve got a good group of people and we know we have a challenge ahead of us.”

Of his primary opponent, Reynolds said, “Mr. Lush ran a very positive campaign. He was very respectful. I believe he knows what he wants. I respect the positive campaign he ran.”
