Porter County Parks offers variety of programs

The Porter County Parks has announced a variety of programs for February and March.

*  Walk Sunburst 13.1 Training Program -- On Thursdays starting March 6, a 12 week walking program will begin to guide, coach, and encourage you to fulfill your goal of completing a half marathon the Sunburst Half in South Bend on Saturday, May 31. You must be able to walk 3 miles in 45 minutes. Program fee of $85 includes race registration and t-shirt, weekly training schedule, check-ins, workout tips and motivational emails. The first meeting will be at Sunset Hill Farm County Park and following meetings will be at various locations. Meetings will start at 6 p.m. Open to men and women 18 years or older. Sunset Hill Farm is located at 774 Meridian Rd. in Liberty Twp. south of the U.S. 6 intersection.

*  Bee Keeping 101 -- Come to Sunset Hill Farm County Park to learn about bees and their uses and how you can have your own bees at home on Saturday, March 1, from 1-3 p.m. This program is free and open to all ages.

*  Master Food Volunteers -- Trainees who complete the Master Foods program, led by Purdue Extension, become part of a special volunteer team and participate in various activities geared toward educating the public and enhancing health and well being throughout all of Porter County. The program will take place at Sunset Hill Farm on Thursdays, Feb. 27 and March 6 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This is a free program offered by Purdue Extension.
