For the first time
in more than two months, the Porter County Health Department was reporting a
two-week decline in new COVID-19 cases.
For the week ending
Saturday, Sept. 12, the Health Department reported 94 new cases, down from
126 new cases for the week ending Saturday, Sept. 5 (down, in turn, from 138
new cases for the week ending Saturday, Aug. 22).
Health Department was reporting 56 new cases over the last 72 hours (20 new
cases on Friday), to bring the total so far to 1,950, up from 1,894 on
Department reported 28 new cases on Saturday; 11 on Sunday; and 17 today.
Of those 56 new
cases, 43--or 77 percent--were diagnosed in the younger demographics: nine
in the 9-19 (287 total); 14 in the 20-29 (391 total); nine in the 30-39 (293
total); and 11 in the 40-49 (301 total).
To date, 287 cases
have been diagnosed in children or teens, or 14.7 percent of all cases (14.7
percent on Friday). On July 7, only 39 children or teens had been diagnosed
of the 765 total cases at the time: or 5.1 percent.
patients are currently hospitalized, unchanged from Friday. Total active
cases in Porter County: 151, down from 167 on Friday.
Three new cases,
however, have been reported in Porter County's long-term care facilities, to
bring the total to 119, up from 116 on Friday. Of those 119 cases, one is
currently hospitalized, 29 have died, and 81 have recovered. As of today,
there were nine active COVID-19 cases in the county's long-term care
deaths from COVID-19 were reported this morning. To date, 45 Porter County
residents have succumbed to COVID-19.

cases (208 on Friday). Thirty active cases.

cases (105 on Friday). Seventeen active cases.

cases (unchanged from Friday). Four active cases.
-- Pine: 11 cases
(unchanged from Friday). No active cases.
-- Portage: 668
cases (657 on Friday). Thirty-four active cases.
-- Center: 543
cases (528 on Friday). Thirty-four active cases. Center Township's total
includes Valparaiso University students.
-- Washington: 90
cases (89 on Friday). Six active cases. Washington Township's total includes
Porter County Jail inmates.
-- Union: 104 cases
(102 on Friday). Seven active cases.
The Indiana State
Department of Health (ISDH) was reporting this morning 3,080 new cases of
COVID-19 over the last 72 hours (1,282 new cases on Friday), to bring the
total so far to 106,540, up from 103,505 on Friday.
ISDH reported 1,076
new cases on Saturday; 1,249 on Sunday; and 755 today.
ISDH was also
reporting 20 additional COVID-19 deaths over the last 72 hours (10
additional deaths on Friday), to bring the total to date to 3,453, up from
3,433 on Friday.
Marion County was
reporting today 20,147 cases (19,549 on Friday) and 755 deaths (754), the
most in the state in both categories. Lake County was reporting 9,902 cases
(9,732) and 308 deaths (307), the second most in the state in both
categories. LaPorte County was reporting 1,324 cases (1,293) and 37 deaths
The total COVID-19
death count includes both confirmed and presumptive deaths to date.
Presumptive deaths are those for which x-ray, scans, and clinical symptoms
all point to COVID-19 but for which no positive test is on record. A total
of 224 presumptive deaths was reported today, unchanged from Friday.
