The judges of the Porter Superior Courts are announcing their selection of Mark A. Hardwick as Magistrate for Porter Superior Court II.

Hardwick will replace Magistrate Katherine R. Forbes, who recently announced her retirement, and will begin his new duties on Sept. 11.

Forbes said “that it was a very difficult decision” but she decided to step down after serving for 23 years. Magistrate Forbes “truly enjoyed her tenure on the bench,” and is looking forward to being able to spend more time with family and other community interests in the future.

Forbes was appointed in 1995 to replace Probate Commissioner Jeffrey Thode after Thode was elected judge of the newly created Porter Superior Court VI. Forbes was appointed by all six judges, but has served directly under Judge Thomas Webber, Judge William Alexa, and currently Judge Jeffrey Clymer.

“It has truly been an honor” to serve under the exceptional judiciary of Porter County according to Forbes.

Hardwick, for his part, has developed an excellent reputation in the local legal community and demonstrated great leadership skills in his years as an attorney with Douglas, Koeppen and Hurley in Valparaiso.

Hardwick said that he “looks forward to the opportunity to serve” and the “many upcoming challenges.”
