The Memorial Opera
House in Valparaiso has received a $35,000 grant from the Indiana Department
of Natural Resources to design a rehabilitation of the structure.
The $35,000 has
been specifically awarded to the Porter County Commissioners and will be
used to prepare plans and specifications for rehabilitating the Memorial

The grant is one of
several--totaling $165,672--in National Park Service funds allotted to the
DNR Division of Historic Preservation and Archaeology. The grants will be
matched by $140,385 in local and private funds, for a total investment of
$306,057. Since 1974, the DNR has awarded more than $18 million to Indiana
communities through the program.
