Back To Front Page

The Porter County Council will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, at the Administration Center, Suite 205, 155 Indiana Ave. in Valparaiso.

At that meeting the council is scheduled to consider a raft of intradepartmental fund transfers.

Of particular note: a request by the Commissioners to use $1.2 million in the Hospital Proceeds Fund to purchase 800-megahertz radios for police and fire departments in the county unable to afford them on their own. The radios are state-mandated, are intended to get county PDs and FDs on the state communications grid, and are expected to improve departments’ communications with County 911.

Other transfers on the agenda include the following:

* $170,000 from the Substance Abuse Council’s Grant Fund to its Local Government Remittances Fund, for grant awards to local communities from the Counter Measure fees received from the courts.

* $70,000 from the Sheriff’s General Fund to Sheriff’s Overtime. Any portion of that transfer not used this year will be returned to the General Fund.

* $10,000 from Motor Vehicle Highway to the Highway Department’s Auto, Truck, and Equipment Fund, for unexpected vehicle repairs and parts.

* $6,000 from the EMA’s General Fund to EMA’s Salaries, to cover a shortage incurred by the payout of the previous EMA director and the hiring of a new one.
