Porter County Council at-large member Sylvia Graham announced Tuesday that
she will be filing her candidacy for Center District County Commissioner on
the Democratic ballot for the 2014 elections.
Graham said she have been a voice for the people of Porter County on the
Council. She prides herself on promoting public safety initiatives, economic
development, drug prevention and rehabilitation programs, parks and cost
efficient county government.
Graham is a former member of the Porter County Redevelopment Commission and
serves on the Emergency Management Board, the Council on Aging and Community
Services Board, the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District, the
Jail Bond Board, and the Jail Medical and Mental Health Committee. Other
experience includes the County Plan Commission and Tourism Bureau. She is
also liaison to eleven county departments.
Besides budgeting experience, Graham said she offers integrity and
truthfulness in carrying out the duties entrusted to a county commissioner.
She said she will be a full-time commissioner, promoting better
understanding between the Board of Commissioners and the County Council.
“Wise decisions must be made in investing hospital principal money. County
buildings and roads, as well as infrastructure, must be improved to meet the
demands of the 21st century. County government must be run more
efficiently,” Graham said in a press release.
