The Porter County
Auditor's Office will host workshops for the public about tax deductions for
veterans, seniors, and the disabled, followed by a workshop on college
planning.
The workshops, to
be led by County Auditor Vicki Urbanik, are free and open to the public.
They are being held as part of Money Smart Week, a national effort to
promote personal financial planning.
"Tax Deductions for
Disabled Veterans, Seniors, and People with Disabilities" will address the
available property tax deductions in Indiana, with a special focus on the
revised state law affecting the totally disabled veteran deduction.
This workshop will
be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 24, at the Valparaiso Public Library, 103
Jefferson St., Valparaiso, and at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 28, at the
Westchester Public Library Baugher Center, 100 W. Indiana Ave., Chesterton.
"Saving and
Spending for College" will address college-savings programs and tax benefits
for education. This workshop will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, April 24 in the
Valparaiso Public Library and again at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 28 at the
Baugher Center.
