Visiting Porter County Fair: Twins sisters Ellie (left)
and Katie Burke, age 12, made a recent visit back to their former home,
Porter County, from their new home in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Among the reasons
for their journey was to visit the Porter County Fair, a family favorite.
Here the girls closely observe a Bearded Dragon, something they’d like to
have as a pet. The Burke family has moved to Iowa this summer after living in
Chesterton for many years. The girls will enter 7th grade at Lasalle Middle
School in Cedar Rapids this fall. (Tribune photos by Margaret L. Willis)

Beating the heat: Tyler Bogue, 12, a 7th grader at
Chesterton Middle School, got out of the hot sun on Sunday afternoon,
visiting the 4-H project exhibit hall. Bogue admired the handmade candles on
display, some of which looked good enough to eat. The Porter County 4-H Fair
continues through the end of this week, with 4-H projects and various
competitions daily.

On the greens: Sisters Hannah (left), age 10, and Katie
Smith, 12, of Chesterton enjoyed a round of miniature golf at the Morgan and
Pleasant Townships’ Future Farmers of America booth at the Porter County
Fair. Visiting the relative cool of the exhibit halls was one way to beat the
heat Sunday afternoon. Katie will be a 7th grader at Chesterton Middle School
this fall, while Hannah will be a 5th grader at Westchester Intermediate.
