Three Dunelanders in running for 2013 Porter County Fair Queen

The annual Porter County Fair Pageant enters its 53rd year with 10 young women competing for the chance to be Miss Porter County 2013.

The pageant is a free Fair event and will take place on Friday, July 19, at 7 p.m. inside the Park Place Pavilion. Gate admission rates still apply ($6 for ages 10 and up, free for under age 10). Parking is free.

The contestants for this year along with their sponsors are (bold indicates Duneland resident):

Sydney Clark, of Valparaiso, Vincentís Hair Design

Ashley Lane Dulik, of Kouts, Porter County Farm Bureau

Elizabeth Gorski, of Valparaiso, Valparaiso Rotary Club

Katelyn Malone, of Valparaiso, His N Hers Salon

Allison McAloon, of Chesterton, Tiny Bubbles Car Wash

Keri McCoole, of Valparaiso, Executive Safety, Inc.

Britta Ringas, of Chesterton, Porter County Pet Clinic

Cassandra Santner, of Valparaiso, The Designerís Club and Day Spa

Amy Swanson, of Valparaiso, McAfee Animal Hospital

Kaitlyn Waltz, of Chesterton, Chesterton Martial Arts and Fitness

Contestants will be judged on the following criteria: Interview – 50 points, Professional Wear – 20 points, Evening Gown – 30 points, and an Impromptu Question – 20 points.

A cash prize will be presented to the 2013 fair queen. She will also receive a crown, trophy, banner, flowers and gift certificates. She will represent Porter County, all expenses paid, as its entry to the Indiana State Fair Queen Pageant.

The pageant will also have a first runner-up, a second runner-up, a Miss Congeniality winner, and a Miss Photogenic winner, all of whom will also receive cash prizes.

McAloon, 17, is a 2013 graduate of Chesterton High School and will be a nursing major at Xavier University. Ringas, 20, is a 2011 CHS graduate and is studying Apparel Merchandising at Indiana University. Waltz, 18, is a 2013 CHS graduate and will be a pre-nursing major at Purdue North Central.

The Porter County Fairgrounds are located at 217 East Division Road just east of the Ind. 49 intersection. The fair runs from July 18-27.
