Grand Champion Geese: Susan Swarner (right) with friend and helper Andrea Glasser (left) show Swarner’s Grand Champion Geese which were purchased by local buyers Dr. Larry Reed of Westchester Animal Clinic and Gloria Reed of Chesterton Travel at Thursday’s 4-H Livestock Auction. The geese duo was purchased for $600. Susan Swarner is a nine year 4-H member.

Showing Goat: Jeanne Bullock of Chesterton is in the ring at the annual Porter County Fair 4-H Livestock Auction Thursday. She is showing her fourth place senior meat wether goat, which was wearing a hat and scarf. Jeanne also had reserve grand champion royal lamb carcass which was purchased by WiseWay Foods. Jeanne is a three year 4-Her and is the daughter of Jim Bullock and Jennifer Chaplin.

Local Buyers: Judy and Jim Chaplin, of Chesterton’s Shady Lawn Florist, purchased a 1,225 pound Hereford Steer for $1 a pound from Christopher Chaplin, of Valparaiso, at Thursday’s 4-H Livestock Auction. Christopher also auctioned off an angus steer later in the evening. Christopher is a second year 4-Her and is the son of Jim and Beth Chaplin.

Sister Act: Jackson Township sisters Katrina Lutze, 13, (left) and Elena Lutze, 9, were both exhibitors in the Sheep project at the Porter County 4-H Fair. Katrina won Champion Intermediate Sheep Showman with her Hampshire ewe, Ruby, while Elena showed Opal. Katrina also earned a Champion Intermediate in the Photography project. Elena received an A Honor for her display of a collection of stuffed cats. The two are the daughters of Mark Lutze and Hilda Demuth-Lutze. (Tribune photo by Margaret L. Willis)

Local Buyers: Sand Creek Country Club purchased the Grand Champion swine pen of two at the annual 4-H Livestock Auction Thursday. Standing in back from left to right are Kyle Wilson, 4-H prince; Becky Godbey, fair queen; Ryan Wilson, 4-H king; Jody Byers, 4-H princess; Jennifer Nuest, 4-H queen and local buyers of Sand Creek Country Club Mike Clindaniel, Director of Food and Beverages and Travis Dale, Chef.
