A former staff director for the Indiana House of Representatives has announced his interest to run as the Democrat candidate in the 2010 election for Porter County Recorder.

Jon Voelz, 42, filed for a campaign committee on Thursday according to a press release. The Beverly Shores resident said he will initiate fresh, innovative ideas to benefit Porter County residents taken from more than 15 years experience with public service.

Volez’s recent activity includes improving and expanding the greenway and blueway trails throughout Porter County. He previously worked in Indianapolis for 12 years supervising legislative and administrative assistants at the Indiana House of Representatives along with managing various state representative races throughout Indiana.

Before moving to Porter County, Voelz worked in Chicago as a licensed realtor where he filed mortgages, liens and deeds. This experience he believes, along with his skills of managing and leading a professional staff, will allow him success as county recorder.

“I view this race as a chance to use my public experience to continue to make Porter County a better place to live, work and raise a family,” Voelz said.

In addition, Voelz worked as the public affairs director for the Marion County/Indianapolis Parks and Recreation department. He is currently vice-president of the Beverly Shores Park Board and has served on the town’s plan commission.

Volez graduated from Ball State University in 1990 with a bachelor’s degree in political science.
