The Wanatah woman accused of molesting a Chesterton boy and videotaping the
molestation--at the behest of her Liberty Township boyfriend--is facing 10
years in prison after pleading guilty to one count of child molesting and
one of child exploitation, the Porter County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office
Tara D. Tryon, 22, was originally charged with five counts of Class B felony
child molesting, a Class B felony punishable by a term of six to 20 years; a
single count of Class C felony child molesting, punishable by a term of two
to eight years; and seven counts of child exploitation, also a Class C
Under the terms of the plea agreement, Tryon would be sentenced to 10 years
in the Department of Correction (DOC) on the child molesting charge, no time
suspended; and to eight years on the child exploitation charge, no time
But the two terms would run concurrently, for an effective sentence of 10
Tryon would also be required, under Indiana Code, to register as a sex
offender and to submit to HIV testing.
She “acknowledges her status as a sexually violent predator,” according to
the court documents.
In exchange for her plea, all other counts against Tryon would be dismissed.
Sentencing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday, July 12, before Porter Superior
Court Judge Bill Alexa.
Tryon’s former boyfriend, Ryan Roy Schroeder, 27, is currently serving a
54-year sentence in the DOC, after he was found guilty late last year by
jury of telling Tryon to molest a Chesterton boy whom she was baby-sitting
and to tape the molestation.
The Indiana State Police began an investigation in October 2011, when
investigators came into possession of 39 images and two videos of a woman
later identified as Tryon.
According to the ISP, Tryon and Schroeder started dating in January 2010
after meeting at a Chesterton restaurant and at some point thereafter
Schroeder “pressured” Tryon to take pictures of the boy she was
baby-sitting. Schroeder “wanted her to begin with the boy as he was younger
and wouldn’t talk, the ISP said. “He would specifically state what he wanted
to see (Tryon) do.”
Multiple images of child pornography were subsequently found on Schroeder’s
external hard drive in his barracks in Florida, where he was stationed as a
sailor in the U.S. Navy.
