A Michigan City woman has died of injuries sustained on Saturday in a two-vehicle accident on US. Highway 6 in Jackson Township, the Porter County Sheriff’s Police said.

The victim was identified as Nanette Howard, 55.

Howard was a passenger on a motorcycle struck head-on by a passenger car, police said.

According to police, at 7:38 p.m. Rachel Dover, 24, of Clarksville, Tenn., driving a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt, was southbound on C.R. 550E when she attempted to turn left onto eastbound U.S. 6 and struck head-on a motorcycle westbound on U.S. 6.

Howard was airlifted to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Ill., with serious head and leg injuries, police said. At 2 a.m. Sunday the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office informed the PCSP that Howard had died of her injuries, police said.

McCarthy, was transported to Methodist Hospital Northlake Campus in Gary with head and foot injuries, police said.

Dover, the driver of the Chevrolet Cobalt, was take into custody on preliminary charges of operating while intoxicated-causing serious bodily injury, two counts, police said; and was issued a citation for failure to yield right of way and refusal to submit to a certified chemical test.

An additional charge of OWI-causing death is pending with the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, police said.

Also responding to the scene were the Liberty Township Volunteer and Westville fire departments, Porter Regional Hospital EMS, a UNCAN helicopter and crew (University of Chicago Aeromedical Network), INDOT, and Joe’s Towing Inc.
