Three wireless businesses located on and just off Indian Boundary Road were burglarized in a coordinated smash-and-grab operation on Sunday, the Chesterton Police Department reported this morning.

The CPD identified the businesses as the Sprint at 301 Indian Boundary Road, the T-Mobile at 305 Indian Boundary Road, and the Verizon Wireless at 705 Plaza Drive.

According to police, at 2:24 a.m. officers responding to an audible alarm at the Sprint discovered the glass of the business’ front door broken. Video surveillance footage subsequently showed a subject enter the building, run directly to the back room, and attempt to break open a large steel lock box with a pry bar. No merchandise appears to have been taken from the Sprint, police said, and the suspect was described as wearing black trousers, a black long-sleeve shirt, a black hat, and what looked like eye protection or sunglasses.

While investigating the Sprint burglary, officers quickly discovered those of the T-Mobile, located two doors to the west, and the Verizon Wireless.

Video surveillance footage from the T-Mobile showed an unknown vehicle backing up to the business’ front door and then two suspects breaking the glass door and entering. The business’ owner advised police that the suspects took accessories, unspecified packages from the back room, and a display phone.

Meanwhile, the owner of the Verizon Wireless reported that, after similarly breaking his business’ glass front door, a suspect or suspects entered and removed two iPhone 7s, three pairs of Samsung ear buds, one pair of Samsung noise-canceling ear buds, and a box of trade-in phones.

No estimate of loss or damage was available.

“The burglaries were limited to an unknown type and quantity of electronic and cellular devices,” the CPD said. “While the incidents are still under investigation, it is believed at this time that all three burglaries were committed by the same persons, who left the scene in an as of yet unknown type of vehicle.”

The Porter Police Department assisted the CPD at the scene of the three burglaries.
