Valparaiso Police are warning folks of a new scam, after a resident was
unsuccessfully targeted by a telephone caller informing her of the happy
news that she’d won millions.
According to police, on Tuesday the resident reported that a male caller
told her that she’d won a whopping $2.5 million, but needed to pony up $250
for “insurance.” When the resident said that she didn’t have $250, the man
said that he’d settle for $100.
More worrisome, the man did know both the resident’s name and address.
Police, however, said that the man never arrived at the home with check for
“Citizens should be aware of this scam and no provide any information to an
unknown caller and never inform someone you are home alone,” the VPD said.
