Two Valparaiso
residents were airlifted to a Chicago hospital early this morning after
Valparaiso Police said that a highly intoxicated motorist crashed into their
home, trapping them in their bedroom.
According to
police, at 1:05 a.m. officers responding to a report of an accident just off
Vale Park Road, east of Calumet Ave., followed “a trail of damage” to a home
in the 1500 block of Aster Ave., where a vehicle had gone through two fences
and then into and inside a residence.
Two occupants of
the residence, a 45-year-old male and a 45-year-old female, trapped in their
bedroom, were extricated by responders and airlifted to an unspecified
Chicago hospital for treatment of their injuries. Their conditions were not
known at deadline.
The driver of the
vehicle, Ivoree Richardson, 27, of Valparaiso, showed signs of intoxication
and subsequently registered a blood content of .434 percent on a blood test
conducted at Porter Regional Hospital: more than five times the legal limit
of .08 percent, police said.
Richardson was
treated and released, then transported to Porter County Jail on multiple
counts of operating while intoxicated.
