A Valparaiso Police officer was injured early this morning in a traffic accident as he was responding to a report of a disturbance, the VPD said.

According to police, at 1:05 a.m. Officer Steve Clifford was northbound on Greenwich Street, crossing Lincolnway, when his fully marked squad car--running with siren and emergency lights--was struck by a a second vehicle westbound on Lincolnway.

Clifford was transported to Porter Regional Hospital “with numerous injuries” but was later released, police said.

The driver of the second vehicle--whom the VPD did not identify--was not injured in the crash.

Clifford was en route to a report of a physical disturbance in the 100 block of Greenwich Street. Three persons were subsequently taken into custody in connection with that incident, police said. The three were not identified and the nature of the charges against them not specified.
