A Valparaiso Police officer was injured early this morning in a traffic
accident as he was responding to a report of a disturbance, the VPD said.
According to police, at 1:05 a.m. Officer Steve Clifford was northbound on
Greenwich Street, crossing Lincolnway, when his fully marked squad
car--running with siren and emergency lights--was struck by a a second
vehicle westbound on Lincolnway.
Clifford was transported to Porter Regional Hospital “with numerous
injuries” but was later released, police said.
The driver of the second vehicle--whom the VPD did not identify--was not
injured in the crash.
Clifford was en route to a report of a physical disturbance in the 100 block
of Greenwich Street. Three persons were subsequently taken into custody in
connection with that incident, police said. The three were not identified
and the nature of the charges against them not specified.
